The Blood Rave- I mean RACE! Race, I definitely said race.. .... though I'm definitely going to rave about it.... A Book Review

OH MY GOSH GUYS BASICALLY EVERYONE READ THIS BOOK YESTERDAY AND WEEP WITH ME BECAUSE IT IS BEAUTY IN IT'S PUREST FORM!!!!!

THE CHARACTERS!!!! THE PLOT!!!! THE TWISTS!!! THE WRITING!!! THE DIALOGUE!!!! THE SASSY BANTER!!!!! EEEEEEKKKKK!!!!!!

And I'm enlisting your help for this post because you have to ask me questions and I will read your mind and write them here and answer them.
Or, you know, I'll just pretend to be you and ask a bunch of questions in your squeaky voice as you wipe your nose on your turtle necked t-shirt and spew waffle/brownie crumbs all over my freshly vacuumed floor.

Gosh darn it, I cleaned it last year!!! Some people have no respect for other people's property. *pointed glare*

BACK TO THE RAVE.

The Blood Race is a book about AWESOMENESS, where AWESOME people do AWESOME things, and some not so AWESOME things, and I wanted to kill some people, and in case you forgot what I'm talking about- IT'S AWESOME. THAT'S ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW.

"Um... is AWESOME the only adjective you know?" you squeak. "Also, where did you get this waffle recipe?"

UM EXCUSE YOU?
ALSO, OBVIOUSLY. I WAS HOMESCHOOLED
ALSO, WHAT THE PISTACHIO? WHY WOULD I GIVE YOU MY RECIPE, YOU CREEP. GET A LIFE.

You: *existential crisis*

Calm down. Also, have more brownies/waffles/waffle-brownies. Cake is also available, since it's the wrong day for squash.

You: *faints at the mention of squash*

Woah, wake up!! GOSH you guys! Get a grip! Jeez.
I'll tell you about The Blood Race if you do!!

He’s spent his life running from who he is. She’s been trying to escape her past for 100 years…
Born with unexplainable abilities he struggles to control, college student Ion tries desperately to integrate into his new school and finally put his dark past behind him. But after making a serious enemy, which leads to an accidental rendezvous with the mysterious old man next door— and his hauntingly beautiful but troubled young protégée Hawk, Ion realizes his life will never be normal again.
Late one evening, Hawk drags him by the hand into a closet-turned-rabbit-hole to an extra dimension, and Ion finds himself stumbling involuntarily into a secret society of training for “anomalies,” teenagers with a special set of abilities. Just like him.
As they train to become Protectors of future Earth, battling each other as well as their own demons, both Ion and Hawk begin to realize that they are far more alike than they realized. Unsettlingly so.
When the Dimension is shaken by an unthinkable betrayal, will an ancient prophecy bring Hawk and Ion together—or will a deadly threat hidden in plain sight cost them both their powers… and their lives?

JUST LOOK AT THAT COVER, YOU  HUMANS AND OTHER INDIGENOUS LIFE FORMS. GAZE AT THE BEAUTY THAT IS THIS BOOK.
now go read it, bye.

"But waaaaiit!!!" You cry after me.  "What is it even about?? Come ooon, I need some incentive here!"

Okay fine. If you stop drooling all over my sofa cushions and start paying attention to me, I'll tell you.

The Blood Race is about:

  1. People who have supercool powers like they can shiftshape (E.G., HAWK)
  2. A main character who is equal parts relatable and annoying (E.G., ICARUS)
  3. A GUY WHO IS IRISH AND FREAKING AMAZING. (E.G., FIN) *still sobbing*
  4. A bad guy that actually makes you want so mad you could kill him with a spork.
  5. A main character who also makes you want to kill him with a spork.
  6. A writing style that is so unique and cool that you feel like you are watching it happen in front of you
  7. A freaking amazing guy. (E.G., SENSEI)
  8. A thrilling plot
  9. Tears.
  10. So many tears.
  11. I had actual feelings.
  12. What is this.
  13. Amazing.
  14. and AWESOME.

LET ME SHOW YOU. Here are some of my favourite (spoiler-free) quotes for you guys:

“You were kidding about the cliff-jumping thing, right?”
“I was not.”
“I really don’t like you.”
“The feeling is mutual, believe me.”

“I said, ‘Sensei, are you waiting around for Hawk again?’ and he said, ‘As always, Fin.’” He began slowly twirling his index finger over the places where the seeds were. “I said, ‘Can’t you get a cage for that bird of yours, Sensei? It would be a little more convenient.’ He said I was a genius, but I told him I was already aware of the fact.”

“It’s not horrible, Icarus.” She nodded in slow, grudging approval. “Not horrible at all. You did a fine job. You can stop.”
“You sure?” I asked sarcastically, reaching back to gently touch my scorched skin. “I haven’t died yet.”
“Want me to bake a cake for your pity party?”

EEEEEK ISN'T IT THE BEST?!?!?!?!?!
THEN GO READ IT.
